It’s Never Just One Thing.

building bridges coaching power of connection Aug 14, 2025

There’s a word that’s been circling in my mind lately.
Silos.

By definition, a silo is a structure meant to separate and contain.
In agriculture, they store grain.
In organizations, they divide departments.
In life?
They divide people.

And lately, we’re surrounded by them.

Silos of opinion.
Of belief.
Of “us” versus “them.”

Right or wrong.
Good or bad.
This or that.

We forget there’s an entire world that exists in between.
The grey.
The nuance.
The messy middle,  where most of life happens.

But silos don’t like nuance.
They aren’t built for complexity.
They’re built to keep things in and everyone else out.

And in coaching?
We tear them down.

Coaching isn’t about forcing someone to see it your way.
It isn’t about fixing, correcting, or convincing.

It’s about connecting.
Meeting humans exactly where they are.
Not where we wish they were.
Not where we think they should be.

When you choose to listen.
When you get curious instead of judgmental.
When you slow down enough to wonder,
“What story shaped this belief?”

Something shifts.

You begin to see that most people aren’t trying to be difficult.
They’re trying to be understood.

They are navigating pain.
Patterns.
Protection.

And just like you, they’ve built silos to feel safe.

What if safety could come from being seen, not being siloed?

That’s the work.
That’s the heart of coaching.
Not to build walls around our truths,
But to create bridges between them.

Because it’s never just one thing.
AND it never has to be.
